34' Newick Proa

  • LOA 34'    Beam 18'    Draft 12" (leeboard up)
  • Designed & built by Dick Newick 1974 on Martha's Vineyard
  • 1/4" fir ply, marine grade, and West system on mahogany frames, not glassed
  • Asymmetric main hull, rudders in trunks (can be raised or removed)
  • Small 6' long cabin in main hull (suitable for gear storage, portapotti, etc.
  • Aero-type rig, carbon/kevlar mast
  • Main and roller furling jib by Bierig
  • Heavy fabric trampoline between hulls and akas
  • Demounts by removing tramp and 16 5/8" bronze bolts (4 at each hull/aka connection)
  • Displacement 1200-1500 lbs

Proa was featured in a Multihulls Magazine article some time ago

Photo here shows proa in water unrigged.  Mast cracked and was being repaired at the time...

Boat is located in Holderness, New Hampshire (2 hours north of Boston) and is currently on the trailer.
(Trailer will require some work before a long trip).

Boat is available for a $nnn contribution to the Camp Deerwood sailing program (current owners)
